Susan Schulz, representing the plaintiff in a child support appeals case, won $21,978 in back child support for her client when the Maine Supreme Court affirmed the decision of the District Court Magistrate. Schultz effectively argued against the defendant’s claims that no arrears were owed on the grounds of laches, waivers, and/or equitable estoppel and proved that a mutual misunderstanding about the nature of prior overpayments from his disability income did not annul any of his legal obligations to pay child support. The Supreme Court affirmed the decision of the lower court in a distinguished win for Schultz and her client.
